piplover: (I don't care!)

(no subject)

Tis the season to slowly be driven crazy. But I'm fighting against the insanity with tooth and nail.  Wish me luck!

For the most part, the customers haven't hit the truly crazy portion yet. That will happen the next few weeks, as Christmas slowly approaches and they haven't received their items yet.  What's truly driving me nuts is the management at work.

Even though last year I had a total of 4 contacts over an 8 hour shift on Christmas day, they're again rearranging schedules so that we all have to work on Christmas day.  Garrrr.

But, I'm working a lot of overtime the next few weeks, and for every 8 hours I work I get 2 hours of unpaid time off.  I'll have enough so that I can take it on Christmas and not have to work at all, though I'll probably work a few hours just for the extra money.

Still, it's really annoying. I could understand if I worked in a service where it was required for people to work on Christmas.  EMTs, hospital staff, military, firemen, police. You know, jobs where lives actually could be in danger. I work for an online retailer.  Yeah, I don't think anyone is going to croak because their order didn't arrive.

Still, the overtime is nice, and I'm really trying hard this year not to let it stress me too much. I may hate my job, but I know I'm lucky to have it and be able to pay the bills.   With England all taken care of, everything I put away is going towards spending money, and I'll have about $1000 more than I did last trip.

My biggest worry is being put on the phones again. I cannot tell you how much I loathe the phones. With a fiery passion.  Even though I know, logically, that most people are nice and the calls won't be horrible, there's always one or two people who go absolutely batshit insane because their order didn't arrive, and feel it's perfectly all right to yell and scream at me just because. There is a reason I do chat support. It's quiet, I don't get stressed when a person "yells" at me, and I don't have to listen to them or their kids in the background screaming bloody murder, forcing me to ask them to repeat themselves over and over.

Sigh.

I'm trying to think happy thoughts.

Like how I got a new fireplace last night!  It's an electric one, and it didn't cost that much. It's a heater, but there is an option to turn the heat off and just have the "flames" go. It's not the same as a real fireplace, but until I am able to move into a house of my own, this is pretty darn good!

Not much else has been going on.  I've decorated for Christmas, and this next payday I'll be able to shop for the kids from the giving tree at work. I love being able to buy presents, and know they're going to kids who will really appreciate them.  Plus, I get to wander down the toy isle and see what's all there!

Only 10 days until the new Sherlock Holmes movie!  Yay!
