It's snowing outside!  Yay!  It's so pretty, I can't tell you how excited I am!  I love snow!  I went outside and did something I've done since I was a little kid with every first snow. I just sat outside, under my upstairs neighbor's porch, and watched the snow fall, listening to the wind chimes.  It was so peaceful, honestly, it was just so very tranquil.

And, in honor of the first snow, you all get a some pic spam!  And, because it's been so long, you get some kitties thrown into the mix!  Enjoy!

I went to close the window and shade in the kitty room and didn't bother to turn on the light.  When I turned around, Colonel, my black cat, had come in to see what I was doing and I ... kind of ... tripped over him.  He yowled and fled into my bedroom, and Rodney came charging in after to see what the hell happened.  I turned on the light to make sure Colonel was all right, and as I was holding him and apologizing, Rodney very slowly and deliberately nipped my calf.

It didn't even hurt, it was much more of a warning than anything, but it made me laugh.  I had actually expected it, since this was not the first time that I've done something to Colonel and Rodney has come to his defense.

Still...I felt pretty bad because Colonel was all hunched over and giving me a pathetic look, as though I had tripped over him on purpose, and Rodney was giving me the "Mommy, how could you?" look.

I think some catnip and maybe some extra baby food may be in order tonight.

Hey, everyone! Sorry I haven't been around, it seems like I just turned around and suddenly how many days have passed? Eep!

Thing 1 and I are still together, so yay me! It's been a month, and wow, that's cool! However, he asked me spend the night on Monday, which on the one hand sounds fun, because he just got a new TV, and on the other hand - um, well, I usually do the zombie thing in the morning? Plus, only been together a month! Not sure if I'll say yes or no.

Had to take kitty to the vet again on Friday. His face was trying to swell to three times its normal size and his breathing was starting to sound like Darth Vader's. Work was very understanding and let me take 3 hours unpaid time off to take care of that. I'll be working a five hour shift on Wed to make up for it, so I'm not bothered by that. And kitty is much better.

Other than that not much to report. Still clogging along at work and then coming home to crash. I really have to clean my apartment, there's a suspicious smell emanating from the kitchen that I'll have to investigate. What a mess, but on my days off I don't want to clean, I want to be lazy!  *Whine*

Ok, off to bed.  You all take care, talk to you later.

I got this litter at the store that's supposed to detect if a cat has a UTI. Since Rodney has been peeing in the same spot for about a month, I thought I would see if it would show anything. I got a disposable litter box and put the stuff down right next to the spot where he's been peeing on the carpet.

He walked over, sniffed it a few times... Then tried to eat it.

*Head desk!*

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, this is my cat, who does the equivalent of eating glue in class.

Not that I'm not loving my new job (Hee! I'm working!) But today was the first day that we actually took phone calls, and, you know, talked to real live people. I was fine until about an hour before the actual calls, and then I was a nervous wreck. They say we did all right, but seriously, it felt like my brain decided to take a sabbatical and left the building.  My very first call pretty much went like this:

Customer:  I'm confused.
Me:  Me too!
Customer:  Can you help me?
Me:  Ummmmm.... I think so?
Customer:  0_o

So, yeah.

Other than that, the day went pretty well, lol.  Oh, except for the fact that my kitty keeps peeing on the rug, arrrgggh!  I think he's pissed that I'm not here all day like he's used to, so he's taking it out.  He's peeing right next to the litter box, in the exact same spot every time!  He's done it like five times, and no matter how many times I scrub it or put pet stuff on it, he keeps going back.  I'm getting pretty mad because my apartment stinks.  Grrr.  It's not a bladder infection, he has no problem going and isn't in pain and he's not peeing anywhere else, just that one spot, where he knows I'll see it.

I had Jack in the Box for dinner tonight.  So not good for me, but it tasted so yummy!  One of the guys went there for lunch and sat right across from me.  I've been so good the past few weeks, but today I just broke down, lol.  Oh, well.

Tomorrow I will most likely do chores.  I really have to clean the apartment and do laundry.  But first?  Sleeping in!  Getting up at 5 is totally not my thing!

Talk to you all later!

I came home from grocery shopping today to find that my cat was curled up under my bed and whimpering in pain.  After I freaked and called the vet, it was discovered the poor thing had broken his hip.  How?  I have no clue!  The vet had no clue, either, sigh.  So now Rodney has to go in for surgery on Tuesday.  I guess it's a good thing this happened now, after I got my student loan in, but still... It's going to cost 500 dollars or more, and I'm going to be struggling to find the money.

I love my babies dearly, but goodness, can't I just once get ahead on the finances?

I have to take Rodney back into the vet's.  His mouth is all swollen and he is having trouble eating his hard food.  I think he can manage the canned food, though I hate to give it to him because it makes his face swell up.  But I guess if it's between a swollen face and actually getting food into him, I'll for the swollen face.  My poor baby is certainly living up to his namesake.  Thank goodness I get paid today so I can afford the bill.
Rodney, sweety, this is your Christmas present.

I'm back!

I just wanted to say that I got my internet back last night, but I've been off for almost a week, so if anything important happened and I didn't comment, it's not because I don't love you guys!  I probably won't be going back to try and read everything, though.  You guys are just way too prolific!

The move -- was a nightmare.  It snowed the entire time, and when it wasn't snowing it was raining.  I've lost six pounds just from last Thursday, due to stress and no time to eat, but I'm not really complaining. :p   I'm still living out of boxes, though not as many as I started with.  I'm hoping to get the bathroom and the kitchen done today, and then I can work on my bedroom and the spare room if I have time and energy.  But, dammit, this is the first day I've had to just relax and take my time, so I'm not going to kill myself trying to get everything done now!

Have to take the cat the vet today, he seems to have caught an eye infection, the poor thing.  He and Colonel have finally calmed down enough to stop hiding in the linen closet, but they're both still really skittish and nervous.  My poor baby!

Have finals next week, but I'm not too worried.  I just want to this semester to end so I stop feeling like I'm going to burst into tears at any moment from stress.  Oh, and yes, Christmas.  I have to get a tree, but I'm actually looking forward to that.

WOW!  My first apartment all to myself!

Hope everyone is all right, take care of yourselves!

Dear cats,

The next time you feel the urge to stand outside my bedroom door and yowl and jiggle the door open at 5am on my day off, I will lock your asses in the kennel faster than you can start purring!  Also, please to note that doing this five or six times between 5am and 930am does not lend you to my good graces, and there will be no canned food in the forseeable future.

No love,

I just had the most bizare experience with my cats. When I was getting them their food I accidentally stepped on Colonel's paw and he took off, while Rodney puffed up and looked around like he expected the devil himself to appear. When I went to check on Colonel he took off into my room, and just as I was about to follow Rodney jumped up on my leg with claws out. I yelled and batted him off, and he actually hissed at me!! The little brat had his tail puffed up and his ears laid back as though I were the most horrible person ever and was trying to kill his brother. Really, it was like he was trying to distract me so Colonel could get away. He was hissing and had his paw raised, so I grabbed the water bottle and started spraying him as much as I could to let him know that that behavior is not allowed.

I think we're at an impasse now, with both cats rather leery of me. Sheesh, I feel like I'm dealing with teenagers! And all this because Colonel went into the pantry he knows he's not allowed in and sat down behind me. For crying out loud!

In honor of all the kitty fics I've been reading lately, here is some kitty spam of my own. The orange tabby is Rodney and the black one is Colonel. :) They actually lay like that a lot, without any posing from me. Aren't they just adorable? One would never know they came from the same litter.

Apparently my cat, Colonel, is a bit more high strung than I had imagined. I turned the bathtub on, went out for like, less than a minute, and when I came back into the bathroom, both Colonel and Rodney went crazy.
I mean, CRAZY!!
Colonel flattened himself on the ground while trying to scramble backword and Rodney was darting about like a crazy thing, and then Colonel took a literal flying leap towards the bathtub - which, by the way, had been running for about two minutes - and all I could think was, oh this can't end well.  But apparently my cat is also a ninja, becuase he didn't even touch the water.  He rebounded off the side of the wall, went scrambling some more on the tiles, and then disapeared under the bed.  This all took about 10 seconds, and I'm left wondering, what the hell?  When I got out of the shower neither of the cats was waiting for me, which in itself is unusual, and after I got dressed and went into the living room, I found Rodney playing guard to Colonel hiding under the couch.
Now Colonel is wandering around with a dazed expression, and I have to wonder - what the hell is up with that?
Pyscho ninja kitties.  They should have their own cartoon!

I was taking a bath after work, enjoying the warm water and the fact that I have my very own bathroom! Colonel, the shyer of the two, poked his nose around the shower curtain and then jumped up on the rim of the tub by my feet to say hi. He was walking slowly and cautiously over to where I was laying against the back of the tub. Suddenly this shadow looms out of the darkness to jump against the shower curtain, precisely where Colonel was standing, and the next thing I know Colonel is in the tub making undignified noises and Rodney is staring at us with wide, shocked eyes. Colonel dragged himself out of the tub and glared at his brother for a very long time while he tried to dry himself off, and Rodney wandered about for a bit with a, "What just happened?" look on his face. I haven't laughed so hard in a long time. Goodness, I love my cats!

So,I tried to take my cats for a walk today. Yes, yes, yes, I know what you are thinking. They are cats, not dogs. But still... You would have thought I was trying to kill them the way they behaved. Rodney sat down on the sidewalk and started yowling, and Colonel laid down and refused to budge. I ended up carrying them back to the house. Sheesh.
They don't mind the harness, or the leash. They just don't seem to like the outdoors very much. I think I will try again tomorrow, and this time use their favorite toy, a bunch of feathers on a string, to goad them into moving. Hopefully they'll equate walking with fun time. Sigh.
piplover: (sleep)
Kitties have killed the tree. No, really...it's so dead. The only way I am going to be able to keep it up is if I take everything off and start from scratch. Sigh. I want to be mad at them, I really do. I mean, its not like I enjoy waking up early in the morning to the sound of my ornanments breaking all over the carpet....without a vacume to clean it up. Grumble grumble.
But the kittes are just too damn cute.
Oh, well.

Today was a good day. I got a job at Walmart, which begins at the end of Nov. It's only a temp, but they said that if they like what they see, they may keep me on. It's cool either way.
Also, finally got around to taking some pictures of the little hellions also known as my cats. The tan one is Rodney and the black on is Colonel. Aren't they just adorable?
