Whoops, there she goes!

Yesterday, when I was getting out of the troop carrier, I caught my foot on the lip between the tailgait and the floor the carrier. I think I can honestly say that it was one of my more spectacular nose-dives.
Now, I'm the kind of person who trips on air on a fairly regular basis, so I didn't think anything of it. I just brushed myself off, laughed at the image I must have made, and went about business as usual.
After we got back from the range today, though, I mentioned that my knee was hurting, and in all honesty I couldn't think why, because it wasn't the normal arthritis pain. My sgt looked at me kind or worried and asked, "Because of the fall yesterday? It looked like it really hurt."
And I'm thinking, Oh, yeah, the fall!
Doh!
Now my knee, on closer inspection, has turned an intersting shade of brown and blue. Really, I don't know how I've managed to survive this long without a broken bone. My foot doesn't really count, as it was only cracked. :)
Anyway, I think I just lost every cool point I ever accumulated after that, lol! Not like I had many to begin with, though. As I said, I frequenly trip over anything and everything, including thin air.

Ouch. No good. With the excpetion of a bout of tendonitis in the heel, I have remained largely injury free in the Army. Shin splints once and a while, but I've gotten those on and off since 1989.

I am amazed! Since I've joined, I've had walking pnuemonia, which led to my asthma, torn my shoulder, cracked a bone in my foot, twice, and my knees are totally gone. And I'm not even jumping out of airplanes! Not to mention the numerouse times I've sprained my ankle and the bruises I collect on a daily basis. Then again, that could be because I trip over my own feet a lot.

Good LORD, woman! Wow. We had a guy who may have been more accident prone than you, however. Have you ever been out on a flight line? They have these little holes that they use to tie down planes in storms. Our boy Shoun broke his foot in one WALKING to the bird. He's the only person I know to ever break a bone on a jump without actually jumping.

I bet I could do it. Just send in me in any direction and I'll find something to trip over, fall into, walk into, or stumble on. I walked into a tree at Basic during our night manouvers. My Drill yelled at me for falling behind, and I didn't have the heart to tell him to tell that to the tree, lol!

Tripping over thin air is a commendable skill. You should be proud *LOL*

Put an ice pack on that knee, or better a packet of frozen peas if you can get them (stay with me here) because they're easier to mold around the bruise so everywhere gets a bit of cold.

^_^

I did that last night. Its not swollen, but it hurts because the kneecap is bruised. Like I said, it was a spectacular nose-dive. And I am rather proud. Not many people can trip over thin air!

Oh dear, you sound like me!

Even if I had the confidence to wear a skirt I wouldn't because of all the bruises and cuts on them!

We clumsy folk should stick (or is that trip?) together.

:)

Lol, I agree. Of course, it probably look something like a bunch of drunks walking down the street, with how often I trip on the slightest crack in the sidewalk. Or nothing at all. I have so many bruises I've lost count by now.

[identity profile] glorfinniel.livejournal.com 2004-06-17 06:30 am (UTC)(link)
Lol. I don't know how it happens. You just..trip. Over nothing.

I think there's actually some invisible man that sticks his leg out whenever I walk near him.

Maybe it's Bilbo with the Ring...

[identity profile] piplover.livejournal.com 2004-06-17 06:32 am (UTC)(link)
Lol!
My boyfriend a few years ago didn't think I was telling the truth until we went for a walk and I stumbled and almost fell. He looked back to see what I had tripped over and couldn't see anything, not even a crack in the sidewalk.
I think you're right. I think Bilbo is playing tricks again!

That, or our feet are too big for us! :P

[identity profile] piplover.livejournal.com 2004-06-17 06:34 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, we have hobbit feet on regular bodies, lol!
Off to work, hopefully I'll make it there without walking into a pole or something. :)

Best of luck!

Wish we'd been there to catch you! Hmmm, methinks you can find a story idea in there (as usual). Pippin trips over nothing (again), but this time an arrow whizzes right over his head, where he would have been standing. So he feels better about his "lucky" clumsiness, and thinks it's a wonderfully Tookish trait.

>)

[identity profile] piplover.livejournal.com 2004-06-17 06:30 am (UTC)(link)
Lol! Yay! I have a Tookish trait! I can see Pippin doing that, too. I don't think any of you saw how truly clumsy I am, though I know you saw my poor lack of direction. Lack of direction and clumsy. Yep, that's me!
Hmmmm, Pippin tripping over thin air, and then bragging about his wonderful Tookish traits... I like that!

Nice! I fell down the stairs a couple a weeks ago trying to carry packages and wear heels. Fortunately, it was only like four stairs and no one saw me.

[identity profile] piplover.livejournal.com 2004-06-17 05:33 am (UTC)(link)
I'm lucky in that I don't fall down stairs so much as I fall up them. But stairs - yeah, they don't like me very much. :)

[identity profile] budgielover.livejournal.com 2004-06-17 07:57 am (UTC)(link)
Good heavens! I bet you are sore now. If it is any comfort, you handled with all the insouciance that Pippin would have. Too bad your Merry isn't there to fuss over you and make someone carry you around!

[identity profile] piplover.livejournal.com 2004-06-17 12:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Thankfully I managed to save myself from serious harm by grabbing onto someone's arm. No Merry to carry me, though. :( Just lots of people who laughed with me, after asking if I was hurt, that is, which was rather nice of them.
I've fallen so much, it no longer really startles me. I bet Pippin has the same luck, lol!
