A netbook is a smaller version laptop computer and has much more usability than an iPad or any of the other fad devices out right now.
Mine was a lifesaver last year when my laptop had a harddrive crash. Get one with as near normal a keyboard as you can. They generally don't have optical drives and stuff like that, so you have download mosst things, or if you have an external harddrive you can load software that way. To run CDs or DVDs you will need external drives, but if you basically want to have a computer that isn't as big and expensive as a laptop, I recommend a netbook.
That's what I'm thinking, that I'll use it more than an iPad. Plus, the one I'm looking at does have a disk drive, so I would be able to upload or burn things. I think. I'll have to double check with my brother.
I think the idea of it basically being a mini computer is the biggest appeal.
I really like my iPad. I have an iPhone, so it was an easy transition. However, I don't find it that comfortable for writing on. The keyboard is a little small for my fingers, so I end up half touch-typing, half hunt and pecking. It's harder to fend off the cats, as its size makes it less of a deterrent than the laptop. Also, I'm used to writing in Microsoft Word, so I'm writing instead in Notes or Google Docs, which are just different enough to be sorta annoying. So for email, internet, playing games, it's great, but I wouldn't recommend it for hard-core writing.
Or I may just need a little more time to adjust, and you may be a more flexible person than I am. But that's my experience.
I don't think I would be really comfortable with it. I've used my brother's iPad, and although it's kind of fun to play with, I don't think I would really use it as much as a Netbook. I think because I don't have an iPhone or anything like that, it would be too strange.
We just had this conversation in the car - the iPad is pretty and useful but it's just a netbook with a virtual keyboard, if you think about it. And the netbook is cheaper and more functional, and if you use a PC you already know how to work it, and how to feed it information and hook it up and you can load it without having to use proprietary software and you can trust the battery life...(pant pant)...
Yes, lol thank you! That was pretty much my argument, but my brother is distracted by the pretty and wants me to be just as distracted. I think you said it better than I could.
