Hello everyone. This is a rant, so feel free to not read it, I am just so mad right now I have to get it off my chest.

When I put on my uniform and go to work, I leave the civilian side of me aside. Whatever I feel towards a person, whether it is like or dislike, should not influence how I work. But today someone decided that they wanted to act like they were back in high school and talk shit behind my back. I overheard comments today that insulted my body, my mind, and my worth ethic.
This person is only 18 years old, just out of high school, and so the attitude is somewhat understandable. I am 25 and have more life experiance than he does, but that did not stop me from coming within an inch of kicking his ass.
I am a proffessional, or try to be to the best of my abilities. It is not my place, nor anyone elses, to judge another person. I do not know what he has experianced in his life, just as he has no clue what I am going through now. I have not made it public knowledge among those I work with about my illness, as I do not want them to pity me or treat me different.
I have to face these people every day, on and off duty, which is why I put my feelings aside when I put on my uniform. I expect, maybe naively, the same respect that I try to give them.
Now, I could have made this private do pushups, but I would have had to do them as well as I am not a sgt, but that would have made me look foolish and done nothing to solve the problem. I talked to him, and though nothing was really accomplished, I did establish the fact that if I ever heard such bullshit coming from him again, I would either press charges according to United Code of Military Justice article 91 for defamation of character, or he would have a nasty fall down the stairs. Not a very mature thing to do, I know.
However, after spending a year in Korea with another soldier who was a lazy troublemaker who tried to spit the same venom as this young idiot, I am not about to let it start over again. I put up with it in Korea until the other soldier and I managed to reach a peaceful agreement and work together, and I am hoping the same will happen here.
I am a proffessional, it is a way of life for me. Lame as it sounds, I am a soldier 24/7. I can be called off leave, or off pass, woken up at 230 in the morning if the mood suites them, and many other things the civilian population does not know about. They can make me do push-ups until my arms fall off, run me until I pass out, which has happened before, and make me do flutter kicks until I can't stand.
Therefore, I do not appreciate a young little brat to go about talking about things he does not know about. I will do my best to treat him with respect and dignity from here on out, but by the Gods above, he had better do the same. Because when I put on this uniform, I am a soldier and a proffessional, and that involves a way of life, one that does not change with my clothes. High school was long ago for me, but apparently for him he still thinks he is in it. I hope he changes that attitude before we are deployed and I have to place my life in his hands.
If you followed, sorry for any swearing, and I hope that I did not offend anyone. Like I said, though, I am really ticked off, and needed to get this off my chest. Thanks.

Eighteen years old huh? Sounds like he needs a good kick in the ass to me. His opinion of you won't matter to the people who know you, and know your work ethic. But I'm glad you gave him a talking to nevertheless. It might give him the incentive he needs to grow up.

Yeah, but it sure pissed me off. I actually liked the kid until today. I thought he was pretty cool. But he needs to grow up, and he needs to learn that he can't go around saying things just because he feels like it.
Sigh. Kids today, they just never learn.

I need to remember that one.

It certainly sums up your feelings about this. Hope things get sorted out soon, I'm 18 as well and I know the tendency we have to 'talk ahead of ourselves' (Hey, we're teenagers, we're the hope of the future, scared yet? ^_^) Let us know how it turns out.

I will. And there is nothing wrong with saying things without thinking, I do it to, lol! But when those things are hurtful and untrue, that is when youth needs to be tempered with age and experiance. After all, I aquired quite a taste for my own foot in my younger years, and have only recently learned the wisdom that sometimes I should think before I speak.
