I did it!  I just bought my plane ticket!  I'm set to fly to England on April 7th, departing April 17th.  It doesn't seem long enough!  If anyone is interested in meeting up with me, I'll be staying in London with my sister.  I have no problem with traveling outside of London, though, I would just need very, very detailed instructions, lol.  Seriously, my sense of direction is absolutely horrible!

Anyway, I'm getting excited!  Now I just have to renew my passport and I'll be all set to go!

Squee!!!!

It's snowing outside!  Yay!  It's so pretty, I can't tell you how excited I am!  I love snow!  I went outside and did something I've done since I was a little kid with every first snow. I just sat outside, under my upstairs neighbor's porch, and watched the snow fall, listening to the wind chimes.  It was so peaceful, honestly, it was just so very tranquil.

And, in honor of the first snow, you all get a some pic spam!  And, because it's been so long, you get some kitties thrown into the mix!  Enjoy!

Or, well, I guess it was a draw.  :-)  My company, for volunteer month, has allowed those of us who were interested to volunteer one day this month on a regularly scheduled work day.   We got paid for the day, even though we didn't do our regular job.  So today I, along with 7 others, went to a local wildlife refuge.  We spent the first 3 hours chopping down huge reeds near a small lake that were encroaching on the nature trail, and then after lunch we cleared out more near the bird viewing house, two of us trying desperately to avoid landing in the water and the third finding out the hard way her hip boots had a hole in them, lol.

Then we walked two miles around the refuge, picking up garbage.  The group I was with was incredible.  I don't think I've laughed that hard in a long time!  Even though the work was dirty and hot, we were all in really good spirits.

But OMG, so tired!  My arms hurt from using the clippers and rake, and I know I'm going to feel it tomorrow.  But work was very nice, and let us go at 3 rather than 5, as was the original plan, so rather than have to sit at my desk for another two hours in smelly, dirty clothes, they told us to get out because we stank, lol!

I'm really glad I got to do the refuge.  Some of the volunteer opportunities were things like helping at a battered women's shelter, or helping a local charity collect donations at a hockey game.  Some people worked at a retirement home, and others helped baked cookies for something.  I think ours was the most physical, but even though I'm tired and sore, I wouldn't have traded it for anything, nor the people I worked with!

So... Yeah, that was my day!  How are you all doing?

Hi, everyone.  Just wanted to drop a quick note to let you all know I'm still alive and doing better.  My doctor started me on some new meds that seem to be working, so fingers crossed!  My FMLA came through, which means all those points I wracked up are gone!  Plus, if I have to leave work early, I won't get another point.  Thank Gods!

In other news, my geeky little heart went pitter patter as I started my family tree on Ancestry.com.  I'm not sure if it was worth the monthly fee I paid, but I'm having a blast.  I got so excited I called my mom twice to ask her some questions about the family, even though it was past 10.  But then she got excited and called me back with some of the information, lol.  So tomorrow we're going to get together and see what we can make out.  So far I've found the ship manifest of when my great grandparents on my grandma's side came over, and what I think is a 1930 census form.  Have to double check with Mom to make sure, but I'm excited.  I figure I'll start on my grandpa's side tomorrow as well.  Don't know much about my dad's side, as both grandparents died before I was born, but I do know they were immigrants from Germany.

Why, yes, I am a history geek, whyever do you ask?

Not much going on.  I'm trying to just enjoy my weekend and not work myself up over going to work.  I think I'm getting burnt out taking calls, so I'm hoping for a different position soon.  Once more, fingers crossed!

Ok, take care all!

Went with my mom to see Sherlock Holmes today and OMG I loved it!

I got the job!  The one I interviewed for and didn't get!  The manager who interviewed me just called and told me that they had a person who couldn't take the job, so they asked me!  Holy smokes, when they said it was a close thing, I guess they weren't kidding!  Oh, wow, I'm excited!  It's only a seasonal position and then I'll go back to my regular role, but it's a 150$ bonus for each month I do it, not to mention it looks really good on the resume.

I'm so excited!!!

I interviewed for a temporary position on Friday at work, which I didn't get, but I didn't feel too bad as there had been 26 people who applied and only 7 positions.  One of the managers who had been on the interview board, and who was my former manager from a different team, came up to me shortly before I left today and told me that it had actually been a very close thing.  Apparently the only thing that prevented me from getting the position was that I didn't have quite enough experience.  She also told me that the board had only heard good things about me, and to keep up the good work.  I can't stop smiling!

It may have been a little thing, but I had been feeling kind of bad about the interview, that I had made an idiot of myself, and to find out that I had actually come close to the position when there were so many people who had been there longer than me and had more experience really made me feel better.

I hope everyone had a good day today.

Today was a good day.  Not great, but it was so much better than last week I can't even compare them.  I actually left work smiling, something I haven't done in too long.

Thank you all for your hugs and support.  It means the world to me.  Things are going to get better, I know they will.  For now, I'm just happy with the little victories.  No one yelled at me today!  \0/

I'm alive!

Hello, all!

I'm still alive, and doing all right. Thing 1 and I had a fight on Fri but things have been worked out and we are good. First fight out of the way, woo-hoo!

If you couldn't tell, I'm a little hyper right now.  This is because....

MY PLACE DOESN'T STINK!!!!!

Yes, yes, everyone, the stench that has surrounded my apartment ever since my cat decided to be a brat and pee on the carpet has finally left! I cannot tell you how wonderful it is to be able to walk in here and not be smacked in the face with a wall of "Oh-my-God-what-died-and-why-haven't-you-buried-it-yet?"

I don't want to sound like a commercial, but I can tell you that this stuff works!!!!  OMG, I sprayed it over the whole area and within minutes (MINUTES!) the place did not stink!  I went to a doctor's appointment this morning and when I came back I was dreading walking back in, because I thought that maybe my nose was just used to the stench and a little bit of lessoning of it would make me think that the smell was gone.  No, I walked in and couldn't smell a thing!  I can breath again!!!!!

This?  Totally makes up for having to carry a jug of urine into the Federal Building this morning.  Totally!

ETA:  Ok, the stuff I used was called Zero Odor.  It is wonderful, and here is the website.  Go, order, and enjoy a smell free place!

Just saw the Star Trek Phase 2 webisode Blood and Fire, otherwise known as Captain Kirk's gay nephew episode. I want the second part like now! It was really well done, and even though you could tell it was an amateur venture, they all did a really good job. The humor was spot on, the story was great, and I could very easily see this as having been an episode. If, you know, the pricks at the studio weren't such dicks who were afraid of the gay. Where the hell is part two? I want like whoa!

So I survived my first two days of actual work!  I think I did pretty good, though there were a few rough patches.  Nothing as bad as on Friday, and I found myself a lot calmer when dealing with the customers.  I just wish people would remember that when they call customer service, there is a person on the other end of the line, and yelling at them really doesn't do much good.  At least, not if they are honestly trying to help you, lol.  Crappy customer service is another story.

Have had a horrible headache today that I haven't been able to shake.  Think it might be something going around since my mom, her roommate, and one of the gals I work will all seemed to have the same thing.  I took a two hour nap today with the kitties and feel a bit better, but still not great.  I cannot tell you how happy I am that I have the next two days off.  So.  Happy!

Anyway, I'm still alive, and feeling a lot better about the job.  I figure if worse comes to worse and I don't get hired as permanent, I can go back on unemployment and find something better.  Plus, this will give me some great experience.  So.  Positive attitude for the win!
piplover: (smug)
I had my graduation ceremony today!  It was wonderful, even if it was a bit slow.  My family  was there and some friends, and we went out to dinner after.  I left work early to go to the ceremony, but my boss was really cool, so I'm just thrilled!  It was a great day!  And I got some wonderful gifts!  My mom got me a beautiful necklace, a dragonfly "to give me wings to help me fly."  I started to cry when she gave it to me, it's so amazing.  I also some checks and some money, which is always great!  I can't believe I really did it!  Woohoo!!  Ok, I'm off to bed now.  Talk to you all tomorrow!
piplover: (smug)
I am honestly a little scared by how well this month is going.  I mean, it's not that I'm not grateful as hell, because I am!  But, honestly, it seems like all my wishes are coming true at once, and - I don't know, I guess I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop?  I'm not used to so many good things happening to me.

First I got a new job, which seems awesome and fun, and the people are great.  Then I got asked on a date by a hot young thing, which in itself would have made my month.  In three days I have my graduation ceremony and get to walk with my graduating class.   And just now I got my last unemployment check and it had an extra hundred on it.  O_o  Seriously, I'm waiting for the ninjas to jump out or something.

May?  Is now officially my favorite month!

First day of work first day of work first day of work!

*Jumps around*

It's just the orientation today, training doesn't start until Monday, but I think I've changed my outfit about five times.  I'm so excited and nervous!  I know I'm going to enjoy the job, and I think the people will be awesome to work with, but -First day on the job!!!

It's just a half day, so I don't go in until 12.  I'm trying to sit quietly and watch tv, or read, but I'm so full of energy I just want to squirm!  And then, after work, I am going to my graduation ball.  Graduation is next week, but the ball is tonight.  I have my dress and everything, so I'm all excited.  Today is going to be a great day!  It will!

HOLY SHIT!

So, I did the whole TV thing today, where they asked some general questions and were really nice, and told me they would either put it on the Good Morning show or their website, or both.  Then I left and went to starbucks, where my phone rang and... I got a job offer!

I am employed again!!!!!!

Of course, it's not the best job in the world, but it's a job, and would allow me to pay the rent and buy groceries and stuff, and I don't think I would even want to rip my eyes out after working there for a few months, so I'm totally stoked!  On the other hand, I just did that TV thing, and what if some big wig sees me and thinks I would work out great for them?  (Snerk. Yeah, right!)

Anyway, I figure I'll wait a few days, then email the news guy and thank him for his help and everything, then let him know I got a job.  Wow!  I'm employed!

Because I'm a dork, and because [livejournal.com profile] forcryinoutloud  wanted to know what they look like, here is my box set of Kung Fu: The Legend Continues.  Hey, I embrace my geekiness!

I got my boxset of Kung Fu: The Legend Continues today, by way of China. It's in English, and really good quality for being an "Adashi" copy, as we used to call them in Korea. I forgot how deliciously cheesy this series was, and am having a grand time watching it and laughing hilariously. It's the whole series, all 80 or so eps, and I can see much enjoyment in my future. Oh, 90s, how I miss your cheesy dialogs and effects.
piplover: (OMG!)
Ok, so, last week, I entered a contest with the local news station, where they would draw 20 names of people currently unemployed and give them a chance to sell themselves on the air.  Well. apparently, I was one of the names drawn.  I just got an email from the guy at the TV station wanting to know when I can come down.  OMG, what am I supposed to say?  How do I sell myself so I don't look like a total idiot and someone will actually want to hire me after seeing my fat ass on TV?  OMG, I'm going to give myself a panic attack, I never thought I would be one of the winners!  Aaaahhhggggg!

*Kermit arms!!*

Ok, ok, I can do this.  I have an outfit picked out, but what do I say?  I - really, I'm not that marketable!  My biggest selling point is I'm a veteran and a hard worker, but I've only been working part time the past three years!

*Whimpers*

Whoever thought winning would be so nerve wracking?  Eep!

Remember how I said a few posts ago that I'm organizing a vigil to support the LGBT community, and that it's part of a nationwide event?  Well, I just talked to one of their people and they invited me to attend a workshop in Austin on the 16th.  They'll pay for my plane ticket and hotel room!

This is a very good, as I'm totally over my head organization wise.  I mean, dealing with protestors in a peaceful manner?  No problem!  I was stationed in Korea and AZ, after all.  But organizing the event, raising the money and finding the right permits and sponsers for everything?  Way over my head!

I'm hoping to get some good information from this, and if nothing else, maybe make some contacts.  Wish me luck!  I'm so excited!
