I got this litter at the store that's supposed to detect if a cat has a UTI. Since Rodney has been peeing in the same spot for about a month, I thought I would see if it would show anything. I got a disposable litter box and put the stuff down right next to the spot where he's been peeing on the carpet.

He walked over, sniffed it a few times... Then tried to eat it.

*Head desk!*

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, this is my cat, who does the equivalent of eating glue in class.

*Sigh*

Try this to clean up the stain, because seriously, nothing else works. That'll help fix the habitual problem. But it won't fix discovering what's wrong.

Get that disposable litter box, put a tiny (teaspoon, enough to scratch) bit of litter in it, lock your kitty into a bathroom with lots water and a comfy place to sit, and get a urine sample. If it's bloody, you know somehthing's wrong.

If this has been going on for a month, you need to find out asap, before it turns into something worse up the line, like a kidney infection.

By all means, try the new litter, but if you can get a sample tonight and get it to your vet tomorrow, it'll speed up getting your kitty better sooner. Even if he does pee in the UTI litter, your vet's gonna want a sample.

(I've noticed that my kitties tend to pee/use the litterbox after meals, so you might want to time accordingly. Save the house arrest time.)

I agree that if there's a problem, you need to act quickly and decisively. It will help and UTI's can be serious stuff with cats.

That said: don't worry about your cat's glue-eating tendencies. I'm willing to match you story for story. I got this lovely, squishy rocking chair about two years ago and one of my cats immediately jumped up on the back and got dumped on his ass when the chair rocked.

Two years later, this little moment of hilarity is still a thrice-weekly event. Enough so that regular visitors hear the thump and say "Did your cat just tip off the rocker again?"

I think it's kind of an idiot-savant thing because he can also open doors, drawers and most cabinets.

Weird,
Bronwyn

I think I'll have to try that. I'm not too terribly worried yet, because my future sis in law is a vet tech, and she told me that although I should get his urine tested when I can, it sounds much more like behavioral problems. So I'm going to get a urine sample down there probably on Tue, my next free day, and we'll see what happens.

Honestly, I think he's just being a pain. He feels neglected because I'm at work for 11 hours during the weekend, and that's usually when he's peeing. I just want to get rid of the horrible, horrible smell! Ick.

Ahahahaha! Yeah, for being intelligent beings, they can sure do some - questionable - things. My Rodney, like your rocking chair thumping little one, can open doors and figure things out really quick, but - still. Eating cat litter.

I'm totally agreeing on the idiot-savant thing.

Yeah. Cats are the special kids in the back of the room.
