Kitties

I went to close the window and shade in the kitty room and didn't bother to turn on the light.  When I turned around, Colonel, my black cat, had come in to see what I was doing and I ... kind of ... tripped over him.  He yowled and fled into my bedroom, and Rodney came charging in after to see what the hell happened.  I turned on the light to make sure Colonel was all right, and as I was holding him and apologizing, Rodney very slowly and deliberately nipped my calf.

It didn't even hurt, it was much more of a warning than anything, but it made me laugh.  I had actually expected it, since this was not the first time that I've done something to Colonel and Rodney has come to his defense.

Still...I felt pretty bad because Colonel was all hunched over and giving me a pathetic look, as though I had tripped over him on purpose, and Rodney was giving me the "Mommy, how could you?" look.

I think some catnip and maybe some extra baby food may be in order tonight.

I accidentally tripped over Pippin, and still feel guilty about it! She's such a tiny thing, and still a bit skittish, I hate adding to her fears.

I can totally understand! I once closed Colonel's tail in a door and felt absolutely wretched! (That was also when Rodney first came to Colonel's rescue!)

Luckily, they forgive us.

How adorable! Thanks for sharing the story. Are the boys littermates or just good friends?

Littermates. They were rescued when they were about 2 months old and I adopted them from the vet my brother's fiance works at. The only time they've been separated was when Rodney broke his hip and had to stay overnight.
