Because I couldn't resist any longer...
Nov. 7th, 2004 09:17 pmIf you happen to be working on some creative writing project, fanfiction or NaNoWriMo or what have you, post exactly one sentence from each of your current work(s) in progress in your journal. It should probably be your favourite or most intriguing sentence so far, but what you choose is entirely your discretion. Mention the title (and genre) if you like, but don't mention anything else -- this is merely to whet the general appetite for your forthcoming work(s).
Story 1: Hope
The image looking back at Pippin from the mirror scowled darkly, nimble fingers tugging and pulling on his tunic with an irritated air. His frown darkened as he turned slightly to the side, eyeing his stomach critically.
Story 4: Safe in my Heart
Bilbo’s aged eyes crinkled with his smile as he turned his gaze back to the first letter in his hand, reading very softly the first paragraphs that Pippin barely remembered writing all those years ago.
Story 2: In a Heartbeat
A good deal of it, Pippin knew, was that neither of them had slept much the previous night, Pippin kept awake after being talked into a game of chess with Frodo that lasted until well into the wee hours of the morning, when he had finally won, and Oren due to his new daughter, who was colicky.
. The stairs, made slick as ice by the rain, were briefly illuminated, and Pippin saw to his horror that in his exhausted state, he had taken the wrong path, and had ventured down a staircase that had been damaged in battle.
Story 5: Cold Days and Winter Nights
Though not the voracious reader that Frodo was, Pippin had taken to reading as a fish to water when he was very young, thanks in part to Bilbo and Frodo’s teaching, as well as his attraction to illness that had left him bed ridden more than a few times.
Story 6: A Feast of Fools
Pippin strode purposefully over to Frodo’s side, arms crossed over his chest, and stared down at him for so long that the older hobbit finally became uncomfortable
Story 7: Eye of the Beholder
Without even realizing what the Wizard was doing, Pippin inhaled the scent of Old Toby, knew that his friend had lit his pipe, and allowed the fragrance to wash over him and banish the last vestiges of the nightmare
Story 8: Blackberry Surprise
Warmth seemed to surround the two of them as they began to sway in time to the music, a gentle movement that reminded Pippin of when he was younger and his sister Pervinca had asked him, tearfully, to dance with her, as none of the hobbit lads had asked her that night
Story 9: Spoken From the Heart
Legolas flung himself upon the door, crashing it open, and the King, Queen, and Prince of Mirkwood stood in open mouthed astonishment at the scene before them
Well, there are more than these, but I figure that 9 was more than enough to wet your appetite. Tell me what you think.
