He was a very eloquent voice--and I hope he gets listened to.
Remember the revolutions of 1848? If I am remembering correctly and I may not be---my college history courses were a LONG time ago-- there are parallels. Widespread and a response in large to a growing feeling of disenfranchisement and disillusionment amongst the general populace--at that time having much to do with the burgeoning of the Industrial age. It just seems to me that our current right wing uber conservative dominated smartphone/social networking/neoDigitial age is reviving a lot of the same issues which have erupted in violence in various places (including Canada, ostensibly over a sporting event) from Egypt forward.
That doesn't mean that I at all support the violence--or even understand it--but with even the so called enlightened and stable governments kissing ass with the rabid rightwing "it isn't enough we the wealthy and powerful prevail, we must crush the rest of you to our will and take away what little you have"--I predict we haven't seen the end of this sort of thing. And we're overdue to have it happen here in the U.S.
I agree, I think tensions are boiling up everywhere. However, in this case, I think it's pretty much just kids being little shits and looking to get free stuff. Even if it was a political protest that started it, that's been drowned out by all the opportunistic little bastards.
Still, with the cuts that have been made to social services? It's not a surprise.
