The stupidity, it burns!!
Jun. 18th, 2012 04:18 pmDanger! Danger, Will Robinson! Political rantings ahead. Feel free to skip, or to chime in, so long as the discussion is kept civil.
I've seen a lot of ignorant statements from people recently. It rather boggles my mind, as they're otherwise rather intelligent. I can understand not liking a President. I can understand not agreeing with his policies. But accusing him of being like Hitler, or lamenting the downfall of civilization as we know it, is just downright stupid.
I'm sorry, people, but when you say ignorant shit, and don't even bother to research what you're saying to back it up, then you deserve to be smacked upside the head with a clue stick.
Anyone who has studied history should know that the the Great Depression came about because of various reasons, one of which was unregulated banks and stock market. Gee, guess what happened when Bush removed those laws that had been in place since the Great Depression to stop things from getting that bad again? Oh, yeah, we fell into a Depression! Blaming the bad economy on Obama is like blaming a tree for being burned down in a forest fire.
Has Obama always made the right decision? No, there are a lot of things he's done I don't agree with. However, he's been dealing with the fallout from Bush ever since he got into office, and having to deal with Republican bullshit, also. And yes, it is bullshit. It's schoolyard bullying. They're blocking perfectly valid measures, measures their own party has often introduced, just because Obama is behind them. No wonder America is a joke around the world.
And anyone who says that the government needs to cut back on spending has obviously never looked at a history book. How do they think we got out of the Great Depression? By spending! Sometimes you have to spend to pull yourself out. Introducing that money to the market creates jobs. When you have jobs, you have money to spend, and when you spend, it goes back into businesses and the economy. It's not rocket science.
I'm not in any way saying I know all about politics. I don't. But I do do research, and I do follow along with what's going on in our government. Quite frankly, it just baffles me the level of ignorance people willingly indulge in. My own dad and brother are Republicans. We have a rule not to talk politics, because we only end up turning red and shouting a lot.
Whatever happened to bipartisanship? What happened to doing what's best for the people? All I see nowadays is bickering and fighting and the overwhelming desire by some to take away rights from others. Don't even get me started on contraceptive rights! I may explode.
Anyway, there's my thoughts. If you want to argue, do your research. Be civil, and treat others as you would like to be treated. I like discussion and debate, I think it's healthy. But only when it's mutually respectful and both parties know what they're talking about.

Date: 2012-06-19 12:21 am (UTC)But yeah, I think it's crazy. I don't remember people comparing Bush to Hitler, and if they did, it was wrong as well.
I was so happy to vote for Obama in '08. We watched the acceptance speech with my dad and I think I even saw him cry. He grew up in the 60's so I think it was a big deal for him.
On my facebook feed I see all sorts of friends I'd consider liberal hating on Obama. How can they blame him?! I don't understand. It's not like he's not trying to get shit done.
Everyone is entirely self-motivated. It's become a country of disassociation and apathy. It's sad.

Date: 2012-06-19 12:43 am (UTC)Facebook is horrible. A lot of people who I would otherwise call educated and intelligent are just saying the stupidest things. There's a reason I stay on LJ!
And I agree totally, this country has gone to pot. It's become all about me, me, me. People don't think about others anymore, and it just leads to more self serving measures that in the end hurt us more.

Date: 2012-06-19 03:06 am (UTC)Every now and then I do get to say something. Once a person was saying did I want the gov't having a say about my health care. It was satisfying to watch their jaw drop when I said "Yes." They weren't sure I knew what they'd asked.
I said "Of course, I'd rather have my own say; but if I have my druthers, then I much prefer the government dealing with the issue than private companies who don't care about anything except making a profit."
They left kind of spluttering, and I at least got a grin out of it.

Date: 2012-06-19 06:46 pm (UTC)Yes, it drives me nuts when I have to bite my tongue and listen to the idiotic BS that people are spouting. It's like, really? Do you hear the words coming out of your mouth? Are you able to think for yourself or have you been robotically altered so you can only spout the lies FOX says?
Honestly, I just want to bang my head against a wall.
