Rant for the day

Just because it pisses me off when I read a really good SGA slash fic and they have to bring up that damn "don't ask, don't tell." I swear to all the Gods above that is the stupidest excuse of a rule I ever heard of, not to mention the fact that it is just a way for bigoted, narrow minded, clueless people in power to show their prejudice under the guise of helping. Ok, Mr. President. Get this through your head. I was in the military for over three years. I served with some people who were very obviously gay. Did we give a shit? No. Did we care? No. You know why? Because they did their job, they did it well, and they were good people.
If that wasn't clear enough, let me put is this way. I have never been so involved in so many perverted, insane, and politically un-correct conversations in my life as when I was in the military. And guess what? Nobody cares. When you spend 24/7 with someone for weeks on end, you tend to forget about things like personal space and modesty. I was the only female a lot of times in a sleep tent with about 30 guys. Do you think I cared at the end of the day if I changed my underwear in front of them? No! And you know why? Becuase they're not ogling me! Now tell me, why should a man be any more uncomfortable around a gay man changing his underwear than he would be around me? And for the record, two of my roommates in AIT were gay, and did it bother me? Hell no! They were cool people!
So, there!
If this rant offended anyone, I'm not sorry. I'm sick and tired of people hating each other for stupid reasons. Life is too precious, people, to not accept love where you can find it. There's too much darkness out there in the world. Don't add more.

I was glad to hear that Canada have passed the marriage law. Personally I dont see why it is an issue, but then that is probably my generation. Shame.

Thanks for this insight. I have only seen male military members' opposing opinions on this and I personally think it's a terrible policy, so it's nice to see a reasonable inside perspective. {{{you}}}
