Just found out today that I qualify for an unsubsidized loan.  If I take it, then I'll owe about 8,000 as of right now.  On the other hand, I can't really picture how I'm going to pay for school any other way.  So...I guess I'll be taking the loan and selling my soul for the next several years.  Is a BA really worth it?  I hope so.  I wish I could quit Walmart right now and just concentrate on school, but I don't think that will happen.  However, I got a coaching today becuase I've been absent 6 times since Oct.  Yeah, pesky little things like a bad back and stomach flu will do that to a person.  They told me if I get 7 absences then it is grounds for termination.  So, yeah, ok.  I guess I should just start looking for a new job, sigh.  Oh, well.  It was nice having insurance while it lasted.

8,ooo isn't too bad... I'm about 60,000 in debt and that's without going to college. I'm pretty sure just about everyone is in like super debt in this country.

Does your school have any jobs, like on campus, you could get? Maybe look for a paid internship? Anything has to be better than working at Walmart.

Good Luck! :)

The school does offer paid internships and on campus jobs, so I think I'm going to go apply on Monday when the office is open. I really liked having insurance, but I really think Walmart is about done with me. Also, when your doctor tells you to get another job becuase the one you have is screwing you up, yeah, I think it's just the parting of the ways. Still... it wsa nice having that little bit of security. As for the debt, when I get done with school, hopefully it won't be more than 16ooo. Gods, I wish the world didn't revolve around money, lol. I think you're right, everyone in this country is in debt.

Yeah... it's kinda like you'd rather be healthy with no insurance than at a job that gives you insurance plus health problems. I haven't had insurance for alomst a year now, stupid self employment, I really need to talk to me about getting me some benifits... , so it's kinda like you have to wake up every day, think positive thoughts, and really, really hope you don't break a leg or cut something off.

Money is going to be the ruin of everything, don't ya know. ;)

Walmart will fire you for being sick 7 times? Yeesh!

Yeah, they started a new absentee policy in Oct. If you are absent three times, you get a verbal, if you are absent six, a written, and if more than six, it is what they call D day, where they decide if they want to keep you or let you go. It sucks, big time, but they get to make the rules. Ah, well. I'm hoping I can a job either on campus or across the street at Lowes, lol. Still, Walmart is the devil.

I hate debt, but I would never have got through college without a loan, scholarship, grant, and on-campus job. *If* it will be worth it... go for it. But I like odannygirl7's idea... any jobs available on-campus?

There are some jobs available on campus. I think I'm going to try and apply on Monday when I go see about the financial aid. If I can get a job then I can quit Walmart and save everyone the trouble, plus I think the school will work better with my schedule. At least I hope so. At any rate, I would probably have more time to do my homework.
I know the debt is worth it, but right now I'm still kind or realing from being in the hole for so long. It's kind of like taking a deep breath before a long plunge.

Student loans suck, but they are worth it. I'm doing the same thing right now, applying for yet more loans so that I can pay for my summer semester and actually graduate.

The good thing is, once you've got through school, you can get a much, much better job than Walmart, you'll be able to have the health insurance, benefits, etc that everyone needs, and life won't be so precarious. It totally outweighs the factor of having to pay back the loans (and this is coming from someone who has way, way more than $8000 to pay back).

You're doing great and things are going to be so much better for you in the long run. Just keep that thought in mind.

I think once I leave Walmart things will be better overall. They were great when I was so desperate for a job, but now it is just really bringing me down, becuase I have no time for myself or my homework. I'm going to apply on campus for a job and hopefully that will come through, but if not I know that the store across from Walmart is hiring, and from everything I've heard, they are much, much better to work for. As for the debt...sigh. I think I just have to bite the bullet and do it, and know that in the end I'll be a lot happier about the whole thing.

One of my nieces worked for Lowe's all through her college and they were really good about scheduling her so that she could be in school. She even got a white collar professional type job with them after she graduated. Based on that, go apply. All the stores may not be as good, but they can't be as bad as Hell-mart.

And definitely apply around campus. The pay won't be great, but there are usually at least one or two jobs that are decent, you just have to find them. (For me it was the school cafeteria. The work sucked, but you could work as much as you wanted. For Allen, the DH, it was Women's Transit.)

As for the debt. . .you'll be just like the rest of us. And I promise, you do eventually pay it off. It's a major pain, but worth it.

Good thoughts and virtual hugs, Kelly.

Thanks. I do want to get away from Walmart, but then I think...insurance! I have to find out if the school offers insurance, beacause I may just go that route. Also, I found out yesterday that instead of the 8000 I was originally supposed to get, I'm only getting 3000. Oh, well. I can at least pay off the school with that and get myself a computer that acutally will let me do my homework. The one I have now sucks, lol.

I think it's insane a company can fire you for being ill! That's just unheard of (at least, over here). I hope you''l be able to find a new (and better) job very soon.

Isn't it crazy? When I was in England visiting a friend, I was amazed becuase her work was repainting the store, and it was making her asthma really bad. They gave a week off with pay! She's also American, and we were both stunned. That never happens over here. At least not in retail.
I think I'm just going to have to try and find another job, and see if I can't get insuranc through the school. Wish me luck!
