The Writers Guild of America is on strike. Thousands of jobs in the
Los Angeles area, in New York, even in Canada, are threatened
by the producers' refusal to deal with the creative forces who keep
their pockets lined.

While the shows that the writers create are suffering, network
producers have reality programming already lined up to take the

place of our beloved shows. This demonstrates that they went into
"negotiations" with no plans to compromise with the WGA, and have
no reason to do so now.

Let's give them one.

Boycott reality TV.

Don't watch it.

Don't stream it.

Don't buy it on iTunes or Amazon or NetFlix.

Don't watch the reruns.

Spread the word.

Seeing as I hate reality TV, I don't think this will be a problem.  Although I do love Ghosthunters.  Does that count as reality TV?

Anyway, I wish the WGA luck, because the big boys are greedy bastards who need to realize they wouldn't be where they are if not for those writers.

I already say no. Except American Idol. I can not be held responsible for my actions when it comes to that show.

Thing is, reality shows are scripted too--whatever anyone says. If they try to completely wing it, they are going to have problems...

Anyway, the only "reality" shows I watch are "Extreme Home Makeover" and "Dancing with the Stars", and I miss those half the time already.

But it's scary. If they don't negotiate something, pretty soon there won't be *anything but* so-called "reality" shows.

Reality shows are scripted to a certain degree, but they don't have material they have to stick to like Late Night talk shows and entertainment. Also, with reality, the people aren't scripted like they are on a show such as Bones, or House.
I hope they do manage to negotiate something, because American TV is already filled with too much "reality" stuff as it is.

Oh I definitely agree with that last sentence!

It's going to be interesting to see what happens. It's quite possible that the writers may find another venue for *their* talents, and leave TV networks high-and-dry.

Because there is such a thing as a saturation point for any one type of show--and when they hit that, they are going to lose market share.

I think probably aside from shows like the Tonight Show--where the material is topical, the first ones to feel the hit are going to be soap operas. I don't watch soaps myself, but soap fans can make their own kind of stink! When they try to replace something like that with a reality show, they are going to find they will be out of luck.
