Oh my goodness, the week from hell is finally over! Yay! I have never experianced a field problem so - well - problematic before.
I have never been so filthy, tired, and utterly worn in my life. I think I only got an average of 2 hours sleep per night since Sunday, maybe three if I was lucky. And those hours were not consecutive. Oh, what a pain!
First off, it took us forever to set up the site, which is normal, and then I had night shift, which meant that I did not sleep at all Monday night. I was allowed three hours sleep after stand-to, however, so I wasn't too bad off. Stand-to, by the way, is when they wake you up at 0-dark-thirty, to lay on the cold ground and protect your position. For us we had to be up at 430 to do stand-to until 530. Then we had personal hygene time, and then breakfast. There were no showers, and only portable toilets, so all you were able to do really is baby-wipe your face and hands. Since males and females all shared the same tent, it was rather hard to change underwear and shirts, unless you just didn't care. And by the end of this damn thing, none of us really cared.
It was extrememly exauhsting to have to work hard all day, and then pull gaurd shift two or three times a night. A normal schedule was something like guard duty from 830 to 1130 and then from 130 to 330. Then up at 430 and on with the day. There were several variations on this as well.
Also, one of our sgts had a heart attack two days ago, and my friend tore her knee yesterday and had to go to the emergency room today.
Of course, there were the good times as well, though they were few and far between this time, which is not normally the case.
My plt sgt tried to steal another Company's mascot, a bulldog named Gus, and failed, so they stole our guidon the next day. We tried several times to get revenge, and had to settle with sneeking over to their sight and grabbing our guidon back.
Also, being so tired you feel drunk can make even the worst situation seem somewhat funny, and my friend and I ended up singing all through one of our gaurd shifts, badly I might add, and laughed more than we sang.
Anyway, I am sorry if this rambled. I still haven't gone to bed, so my mind is really not stuck on too firmly. I'm trying not to think of the surgury tomorrow, except that it means I get to sleep a lot.
I am glad that most of you had a good week, and I missed reading your journals daily. I hope you all take care, and I will let you know how my surgury goes. Good night/day to all of you, and may hobbits sorround you in big, gentle hugs!

I also think it funny that they were doing gaurd duty like they were to purposefully sleep deprive us, when everyone I talked to who had been over there said that they were never that sleep deprived. Also, they keep saying that we are training for war, but those who just came back from being over in the war for 14 months or 7 months say it is nothing like the field. Go figure.

Well, I guess if you can hack it in the field, war should be no problem.

I can say going without sleep is a good thing to get used to. There were some days that we thought were over and a last minute raid would come out and we'd have to go out until like 6am. Yeah, those days sucked.
