Jun. 10th, 2011 10:59 pmOK, I'm seriously about to cry from frustration right now. I can't get that damn game to start, no matter what I do. I looked up all the settings and everything, and I should be able to play it. I tried to update my video card, but it said it was already as current as it gets. I tried to run it in compatibilty mode, and it still freezes on me! What the heck do I do? I don't know enough about computers to figure this out, and I just want to play the damn game. It really shouldn't be this hard! Garrrggh!!!!!

Date: 2011-06-11 07:40 am (UTC)I have about five of them, The Hound of the Baskervilles, Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened, Sherlock Holmes: Nemesis; Sherlock holmes and the Secret of the Silver Earring and Sherlock Holmes and the Mystery of the Mummy. i am able to play all without any system freezes--but I'm running them on the laptop which has Vista.
If you have system the newer OS--what is it called System 7 or something? --chances are the games are no longer compatible with the OS---operating systems are designed to render inoperative your older games and software. I had my laptop after a recent update refuse to open Photoshop a program I've used for years---it freezes up like yours does whenever I try to open it. I've had to switch to a freeware program that doesn't do some of what Photoshop did because it won't run anymore.
If and when I ever have the energy again, I'm going to see what can be done about that. But it may be that you won't be able to play that game because Microsoft doesn't want to play nice with older games and programs.
