How does one go about finding a regular doctor?  I've been going through the VA, but my doctor moved away, and I hate the new one. He treats me like I'm an idiot, and didn't even ask about my stomach or my back. When I brought it up, he looked at me as though I were crazy, or taking up his time.  Grrrr.

Because it's the VA, I can't request a new doctor, so I'm looking privately.  But, I'm kind of stumped.  Do you just look in the phonebook?  *Head scratch*

Thanks for any help!

When I was looking for my doctor I think I first had to know what doctors were covered under my insurance, so I think they gave me a list of them. Then I googled the names and sometimes they pop up on websites that have reviews of the doctor. I actually got my doctor because he was an associate of the doctor I actually wanted to get on with. She didn't have any openings so the receptionist set me up with him.

I also hear that Angieslist is a good place to go and find reviews of medical professionals.

Hrrrm. Thank you for the info! I have no clue if my insurance covers specific doctors or not, I'll have to look into that. And I will definitely be looking into Angieslist.

Actually, yes you can request a new provider at the VA. Talk to your patient advocate.

I have a patient advocate? I didn't even realize this! I will have to look into this, thank you! My VA is so small, I don't know if it's worth trying to get the other doctor, but I will see what is said. Thanks!

Every VA facility should have a patient advocate hidden in a closet somewhere. Ask around.
