I've had the worst customers today.   They've been rude, crass, and mean!  So, to protect my teeth from being ground down to nothing but dust, I bring you a poll.  This is just my frustration speaking and just for fun.  [Poll #1760157]

I don't know if it really counts, because I have patents instead of customers, but I still get called an idiot sometimes.

I generally pretend like I didn't hear whatever they say, and just keep going. Or, if they're really bad, show them the door and tell them to leave.

Oh, wow. I can't imagine calling a doctor an idiot! That's just so disrespectful!

I think it would be easier if I dealt with them face to face, but I'm online support, and have to try to convey everything through the written and spoken word. Usually it's not bad, but today customers have just been horrible! I don't think I've been called a dummy or chatter-head before. I'm not even certain what a chatter-head is!

Oh, well.

Since I work phones AND help customers, you have my deepest sympathy! There are days I'd dearly love to jump on the desk and scream as loud as I could. Some of them would make excellent models for retroactive abortion!

Oh, I totally agree! Some days the customers are wonderful and funny and I really enjoy helping them. And other days are like today, where it seems like I've been forced to help every jerk, cretin, and asshole around. I want to just reach through the computer and strange some of them!

Thank Gods it's the weekend!

Some customers just *are* jerks, and you have it harder, since it's all on the phone.

In person? I'm sweet as sugarpie, and say "Bless your heart!" and "Have a nice afternoon!" and then they leave and I give a knowing smile to the next person in line, who will roll her or his eyes, and proceed to tell me why the previous person was such a creep, and how I am so wonderful for being so nice. Clearly Oklahoma is not the South, because in Mississippi, they would crack up because THEY KNOW what "Bless your heart!" CAN mean. (Of course, to confuse matters even more, sometimes it really does mean "Bless your heart!" in a good way.)

I don't think that works over the phone, and I'm sure I'd have been fired long ago from a job like yours, because I would have pretended that that call had been dropped ("I'm sorry, I can't hear you!") and then hung up. This would probably not commend me to my boss, I am sure.

Hahaha! When I become really upset, I tend to get more and more sweet. I have the policies to back me up, and I sometimes really enjoy, more than I should, telling a customer very sweetly that I can't help them and that no one else can either.

Some days I wish I did work face to face, as I think it's a lot more fun and you get to interact a lot more. The computer and phone can be very isolating and it's all too easy for the customers to not think of us as people because of that.

I have had a few customers, though, whom I very sweetly told, "Thank you for contacting us, and have a very pleasant day!" After they've been complete and utter jerks to me. It just makes me look that much more adult, lol.

So do I, hon! I don't know what happened, since yesterday the customers were all mostly very friendly and funny and made the day go by quickly. Today they were all angry and "yelling" and arguing with everything I said.

Thank goodness it's the weekend!

I have no idea why some people think that shouting and swearing at the person trying to help them will somehow make that person want to go the extra mile and do even more. If someone is behaving like that with me, I just shut down and do the bare minimum. And then there are the ones who want something we don't sell, and when you tell them that they just stare at you and say, "But, I need it!" My old supervisor used to want to tell them "Oh, wait one moment and I'll pull one out of my a**e!" ;)

People suck. Hooray for the weekend!

Thank goodness for the weekend!

And yes, exactly! I had customers saying, "Why didn't I get my full refund?" And when I explain, their answer? "That's not good enough." I wanted to say, "Tough. Cry me a river and go away."

People are just rude and horrible to customer service. I mean, if a person is nice to me? I'll go out of my way to help them and do everything I can, because I like helping people. But if they're like they were today? I want to tell every one of them to go suck a lemon.

Sigh.
