LIfe, the universe, and everything

The past few months have been a bit up and down. A lot of people I care about are going through difficult times, and even though I despise my job, I have one, and I'm thankful for that.
When I first left the Army I was, technically, homelss. I didn't have a place, or any money, so I was staying in my mom's guest bedroom. I was lucky in that I got severence pay and was able to travel a bit before coming back home and dealing with reality. I got a place with my brother, found a job at Walmart, and started going to school.
But things weren't working out. I didn't have enough money to purchase books, pay tuitioin, and pay the rent. Things kept spiralling. I was so very, very lucky to have friends who stepped in and helped. One bought my books for me, one gave me a little extra money. None of them ever asked to be repaid.
Today, I'm in a position where I have the ability to help those I care about, if just in a small way. It's not enough, which breaks my heart, but it's something. And to help this, I'm thinking of opening an Etsy shop.
I have no idea if it will be worth it, as I'm not nearly as creative as a lot of others. But I can make scarves, blankets, baby blankets, and hats.
Does anyone have any experience with Etsy and can offer some tips? Like I said, I don't know if it will even be worth it, but I want to do everything I can in my power to help myself and those I care for.
