I put yes for the biting, but with a caveat. I keep them really short to begin with. Once my nails get to a point where they go past the pads of my fingers, they are too long. I tend to clip them about once a week. Occasionally I don't, and they get caught on something, and it's just easier to bite or tear the hangnail off than it is to hunt down the clippers that my partner has misplaced.
We both do our nails, actually. He just does his toes, and prefers various shades of pink. I've got the entire rainbow in nail polish, and will sometimes mix and match and just go nuts. Sometimes I can get him to do it for me if I can't be bothered to get off LJ long enough to fix my nails though.
I keep my nails pretty short, too. If they go over the finger, it drives me nuts and I end up either biting them or filing them down a ridiculous amount.
That's so awesome that your partner will do your nails for you. I have to do them myself or get a manicure, but I also do my toenails, and the colors depend on my mood and how outrageous I want to be.
My biggest thing is I pick my nails, especially if I'm nervous, but if I have nail polish on I'm vain enough it will usually stop me.
I used to be a dreadful nailbiter when I was younger; I've pretty much reformed, though if I have a nail break when I don't have a file handy, I may bite a little to even it off.
Nail polish is against the dress code at my job (so are fake nails), so I don't polish them anymore-- when I did I used a clear or natural color. I used to once in a while pamper myself with a "proper" manicure, but no point in it now.
Also, as I've gotten older my nails have become very brittle. They break and splinter much more than they did when I was young.
I used to bite my nails, but now my big battle is against picking at them. Usually I let them grow to a certain point and then they drive me nuts and I either bite them, pick them, or file them down to almost nothing!
I like manicures, but it's not really worth it unless I have a big event coming up. Usually it's more fun anyway to do it myself and be outrageous!
Do you use anything on your nails to strengthen them? I have some clear polish that is brilliant.
I used to be a nail-biter and used clear polish to deter myself. (Only worked for about a month)
I got fake acrylic nails once and HATED it. They're so thick it's really hard to scratch or do detail work that requires skinny nails. Then they grow out and it looks all nasty. And when they finally come off, they make my fragile nails even more fragile. BooO!
Now I never bite and may nails are pretty much this tomboys only "girly" indulgence. I grow 'em out long and keep them nicely rounded. It's quite a feat, really, since my nails have always been very very brittle. I often put on clear coat just to strengthen them so they don't break or bend backwards as often.
My toes are a whole different matter. I keep them clipped SUPER short because the feel of scratchy toenails drives me crazy. If there's any white at all, I clip it. A lifetime of this practice has made my toenails pretty small.
I used to bite my nails, but now I only really pick at them when I'm really nervous. Clear polish didn't really do anything, but if I have color, then I'm vain enough that I'll work hard to keep my nails looking good.
My toes I keep clipped really short, but I still like to pain them in the summer.
I've never had fake nails, but I like manicures because they do hand massages and then paint the nail. Can you use a clear polish? I've found that the clear polish actually keeps my nails stronger, but I can understand if that isn't allowed.
Actually, the only time I paint my nails is when I have to for a play, such as the one I just finished. I'm dreadfully hard on my hands, which means that polish doesn't stay on them well at all.
I put no to painting my nails, but I do paint my toenails. I can't do my fingernails as polish lasts about two seconds at work, and if I make a decent job of my left hand I always spectacularly mess up on the right. My toenails are currently turquoise. :)
