Apr. 27th, 2012 11:19 amI will not reach through the computer and strangle my customer. I will refrain from bashing my head against the desk. I will not swear a blue streak because my customer is an idiot and does not believe what I told them, even thought THEY contacted me. ARRRGGGGHHHH!!!
I seriously need to get the hell out of customer service. Seriously, this is detrimental to my health. And the job hunt is slow going, as most of the places that are hiring are, you guessed it, retail.
I am trying to be positive, and remind myself that I can quit in a month, but I'm also scared to death that I won't find something soon. And my safety net is not good enough to last more than a month or two.
I just don't know what else to do. I'm looking for jobs, and have given my resume to the Worksource people and the VA retraining people, which I qualify for.
I'm just really tired.

Date: 2012-04-28 04:18 am (UTC)But lately, it seems I only get the mean, horrible people, or self entitled people who just want, want, want. It's very disheartening.
One more month!

Date: 2012-04-28 03:44 am (UTC)You might not be wise to dismiss ALL possible retail jobs-- it makes a lot of difference what kind of store it is.
Working in a "big box" store or a major chain can be just as much a PitA as the job you have, if not more so. I know I would NEVER want to work in one of those, and I actually LIKE customer service. But working in a small independent store, a small family business, or a small regional chain, especially one that sells things people want instead of what they HAVE to have can be a lot less stressful. For one thing, business tends to be a little slower, and in general, the customers who go to that sort of store tend to be nicer. The disadvantage, of course, is they are usually part-time jobs with few if any benefits.
Anyway, such a job might be a temporary thing while you look into what you REALLY want to do.
You also might want to check into some of the online work-at-home options. A year ago, I would have recommended Demand Studios-- I was getting some decent money from them-- but they have sort of dried up in the last few months. Still there are some other options online.

Date: 2012-04-28 04:22 am (UTC)Unfortunately, both jobs were only part time, and didn't have any benefits. I wouldn't be averse to working something like that, so long as I could get full time, even without the benefits. I will look around some of the small businesses we have around here and see if anyone is hiring.
I have been looking into some work from home options, but haven't really found anything feasible. I know it's such a big risk quitting a steady job while the economy is so low, but... I don't know.
