A journey's end
Oct. 23rd, 2013 09:30 amMy father passed away Monday morning. He died peacefully, with my mom by his side.
My sister had flown in on the 17th, and we were able to make some good final memories with him.
Unfortunately, he took a turn for the worse on Sunday, but my mom flew in that night and when he saw her, for the first time that day he showed recognition and actually spoke. They may have been divorced, but both of them loved each other very much still, and neither of them have remarried. As my mom said, he was her first love and her last.
We took my sister to the airport on Monday, and it seems he wanted to be alone with my mom, because he passed when we were away.
The hospice workers were amazing and treated him with dignity and respect the entire time, and their last honor was the Last March. They draped his body in a flag and we walked with him to the morgue, where a priest gave one final blessing.
I'm so thankful for all the support of everyone here. I didn't really have internet while I was in Florida, only sporadic access, and I probably won't be able to respond to all the well wishes. I'm just too tired and drained. But I can't tell you how much your support has meant to me.
Please take care everyone. I love you all.
