All right, I have had it! The fucking elections are over, people. Bush won. Get over it. Your bashing everyone who voted for him or who doesn't hate him is not going to change the fact that he is president for the next 4 years.
We are not going to have a nuclear war. They are not going to start a draft. The fucking world is not going to end. Life goes one as it has the past 4 years, and then we'll get another president as equally hated by all sides.
I've tried to keep out of this out of respect for all my friends, but I am so sick of reading all these depressing, the world is going to end posts. Did I vote? No, I was not able to get my absentee ballot. Who would I have voted for? Bush. Because I don't think he's done a terrible job.
Do I agree with everything he's said? No. Do I agree with the war? No.
But just because I don't like it doesn't mean it isn't necessary. And for anyone out there who wants to bash me, let me remind you that my fiance and my best friend are over in Iraq right now, with the chance of myself going over there very high. So if anyone should be mad, it should be me!
I don't care what your politcal fascination is. I don't care if you rant and rave on your lj. Its your private playground, say what you want. But for goodness sake, don't bash other people because we don't agree with you.
I have read several posts today from people who are thinking of quiting lj because of this.
Is this what you want from our country? To be devided like kids on the playground because the person you wanted didn't win?
Unfriend me if you want. Tell me how terrible a person I am. But I for one got my lj because I love hobbits, not politics. The world goes on.

Abso-damn-lutely, hon. I don't agree with your politics, but that does not make you a bad person, for heaven's sake. I think things got a little hot because some of us have not gotten over feeling burned from the last election. But will that make me turn on people that I like because they love the really important same stuff I love: LotR, Hobbits, and good stories? I don't think so. I have a lot of friends with whom I can agree to disagree, whether it's politics, religion, money or Balrog wings. (Now if they don't like LotR, that's a different matter altogether, LOL!)

A few people have trouble letting go. Perhaps I'm calmer about it because of my age, or maybe I just don't care as much as I used to about politics.
Some of those people are going to feel a bit sheepish in days to come that they were so quick with their rants. It will come back around again in four more years, and we'll see what happens then.

Anyway, I can't see "unfriending" someone over such things, sheesh. Stick with us, dear. At the very least the stories are worth it!

I agree, though I think the orginial Greek parliment would be even better. Hmmmm. Do you suppose that if all of us wrote Frodo or Gandalf for President next year, we might get somebody good?

LOL! Poor Frodo doesn't deserve to be stuck with the job, and Gandalf wouldn't touch it (I mean he wouldn't touch the One Ring, and it wasn't nearly so corrupting as politics! *grin*). No,no, I think we need Aragorn for King; he could easily handle the job, and life would be a whole lot cooler. (Imagine his cabinet would consist of Arwen, Legolas, Gimli, the Thain, the Master of Buckland, the Mayor of the Shire--oh, and Elrond's sons for good measure. He'd very quickly fix the health care system, the "hands of the King" and all that, put Sam in charge of the Dept. of Ag, and I can't think of anyone better for Sec. of Defense than Merry Brandybuck. Legolas could run the EPA, and Gimli the Dept. of Transportation...hmmm)

THANK YOU!! I said this in my journal too. I'm glad I'm not the only won who has noticed the pointless and often cruel comments made towards Bush supporters. THey are welcome to their rants, of course, but direct them ar BUSH, NOT the supporters!!!

Well, I know you don't read my LJ anyway, but I just thought I'd respond anyway in hopes of being understood. I did get a LJ for hobbits, but I also post about my life, and politics is part of my life. If it makes you feel better, I think people (including me) just needed to get this stuff off our chests and therefore I think the election posts/reactions will go away. For some people, this stuff is very emotional (and for me wrapped up in my professional life), and I don't know about you, but I use LJ to get out my emotions, whether or not people agree with them.

And please let me add that I think and worry about you having the possiblity of going to Iraq all the time and never ever forget it.

I have not gone to other people's LJ's who disagree with me and bashed them. I think it's unproductive and rude.

Well, block me from your LJ if you must. But I would miss hobbits.

I would never block you from my LJ just because you didn't agree with me. I also post my life on the journal, but I was upset because so many people were bashing those who did not vote the same way they did. I don't care if they bash the president, or the war, but I do take offense to those people bashing other people.
I'm sorry I haven't friended you, I thought I had! My mind is like a cheese grater, and would probably slip out if not for my thick skull.
I know people are just venting, but I was just sick of all the doom and gloom posts and the bashings.

This whole business is making me wait for ROTK EE even more.
