I'm going to the field today, so I may not post for about a week. I think they'll let us come back each night, though I may be on the night shift. Hmmmm. I don't mind that, as no body really bothers you when you are out there.
Anyway, I hope they let us come back at least after our shifts, as I shudder at having to go a week without a shower, especially in this heat! It's been getting to be about 85 or 90 during the day. Sigh.
Talk to you all later, though hopefully sooner.
Hugs!

Nobody in Middle-earth ever needs a shower. Or a toothbrush. Or a bathroom. What a place!

Reading back through some of your entries, I realize that you're in the military. I did several years in the Air National Guard (and man, do I know what a GI party is!) so I can sympathize.

Field bathing has never been expressed better than by Terry Pratchett, who had Granny Weatherwax (an older witch who didn't believe in getting all the way down to her bare nothings) explain that she washed "Parts. As and when they become available."

What that means is taking a little planning. On the way to the latrine, get a washrag wet and soapy to use on the areas you can't wash at a public sink. Even if you're in the middle of nowhere you can give a quick swipe to the sweatiest zones now and then.

And there are manufacturers who make underwear that is specially designed to be very quick to wash and dry, so that you can easily manage to get by with only two sets. Try REI or Eastern Mountain Sports and take a good look at the stuff aimed at backpackers, too. (the Lady J, for instance.) The military has some good equipment, but it doesn't always get issued to the folks who need it!

Wow! I didn't even know they made underwear like that! That is really good to know. As for bathing in the field, well, my little brother summed it up like this: face, feet, crotch and pits. I love baby wipes!
I am keeping very quiet now as the other company on my floor, to which my roomate belongs, is having a gi party. And seeing as how I was allowed to escape the field for a night, I am going to enjoy a hot dinner and stay safely hidden until the danger dies down.

Ah. He is a boy. He forgot one. "Time to wash my pits and tits." as my aunt's unregenerate neighbor used to announce to the mortification of every twelve year old child in the room...
