My computer died. Completely, totally dead. I lost all my writings. Everything from the past 6 years. The hardrive was wiped. Nothing remains.
I don't know what to do. I'm devestated. I'm - I'm just devestated. I can never get those back.

Did you have your stories published on the web somewhere? Or were those private stories, just for yourself?
I feel for you!

Date: 2006-05-18 11:55 am (UTC)Are you sure the harddrive was actually wiped? It's really hard to obliterate data on a drive unless you hit it with a strong magnet. Before you toss the whole thing, check the phone book or the web for data recovery people in your area and do some pricing. We've recovered stuff we thought was thoroughly lost that way, although it wasn't cheap!

I live in fear of that sort of thing happening to me, which is why I tend to post so quickly.

Of course, I recommend getting a Mac for your next computer. Consumer Reports in its current issue shows Apple to be tops in reliability and needing the fewest repairs.
